Most Reverend J. Gregory Kelly
A native of Southeast Kansas, Fr. Swift was ordained in 1978. Most of his priestly ministry has been in priestly formation at Kenrick-Glennon Seminary in St. Louis where he taught theology and liturgy. He has a doctorate in theology and held the Justin Cardinal Rigali Chair of Liturgy at the seminary. Besides teaching, Fr. Swift also served as a spiritual director for seminarians. At various times over the years, he was the Director of Spiritual Formation, the Director of Worship, and the Director of the Masters of Arts program.
In addition to his seminary work, Fr. Swift served eight years as Provincial Superior of the Midwest Province of the Vincentian Community, directed the formation program for the permanent deacon program of the Archdiocese of St. Louis, assisted the pastor of a St. Louis Maronite Catholic parish for fifteen years, served on the board of DePaul University in Chicago, and chaired the Papal Mass Committee for the visit of Pope St. John Paul II in 1999. In the year prior to coming to Holy Trinity Seminary, Fr. Swift was leading parish missions in the Midwest while also offering sacramental and spiritual ministry to diocesan priests serving in Midwest rural dioceses.
